The 2004 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva emerges from the glass with a broad-shouldered
personality. Quite understandably, the fruit here is richer and deeper than
in the 2005 Brunello, yet the wine’s volume has been achieved while retaining
gorgeous clarity and precision. Sweet spices, licorice, menthol and tar add
complexity on the generous, enveloping finish. This is a wonderful effort from
Caparzo. In 2004 the Riserva was sourced from Il Cassero (60%) and Caparzo (40%)
but the wine is best described as a selection of the best casks in the cellar.

Wonderfully aromatic, with tangerine, milk chocolate and plum. Full-bodied,
with polished, silky tannins that follow through to a strawberry and plum aftertaste.
Reserved and very pretty. Best after 2011. 1,250 cases made. –JS
