The 2006 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico La Marega is rather closed in on
itself. It shows gorgeous palate presence and weight, but the bouquet is muted
and the elements don’t quite come together in the glass. Still, over time,
enough of the wine’s fabric comes to life to make me think all it needs
is time. Dried flowers, minerals, new leather and wild cherries comes through
on the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2026.
I was deeply impressed
with the wines I tasted from Le Salette this year. This is a fabulous collection
that deserves serious attention. -Antonio
